This year the Ladies’ Flatlanders weekend (September 8-11) found us at Pajaro Dunes for our fifth year. We shared a townhouse on the beach, and had a wonderful time, filled with relaxation, walks on the beach, great conversations, games, and lots and lots of food! We treasure the time together, giving us an opportunity to share our stories and get to know each other better.
We saw a lovely sunset Thursday evening, then the overcast came in, and the sun did not reappear until Sunday afternoon as we drove back home. Though we missed the blue skies and starlight, it did not slow us from the enjoyment of togetherness. A few people went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium one afternoon, while the rest hung out at “home.” Sunday morning we shared Morning Prayer together, led by Laura, Lynn and Marnie.
Our group consisted of Nancy, Dorothy, Mary, Jan P, Julie, Linda, Lettie, Jay, Marilyn, Lynn, Cassandra, Joan, Cathy, Marnie, and Laura. Meg and Jan B drove down for the day on Saturday, and we were also joined by Mary’s daughter Stephanie and Linda’s friend Julie. It was a nice mix: ladies who come every year, a couple who were able to attend this year after a few years absence, and some first-year attendees.
We are already looking into next year’s weekend, and may rent two homes if there is enough interest. Traditionally we have gone the weekend after Labor Day, but next year we will likely move it a couple weekends later in September as the resort expands their “Summer Season” further into the month. The cost will rise if we keep the same weekend. Look for more information in the coming months. Flatlanders is open to any women 21 and older. New and returning ladies are always welcome.
