The Manifestation of the Spirit for the Common Good

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good . . . (1 Corinthians 12.4-7)

There are so many reasons to be part of the faith community called St. James’.  Through our common life together, we receive countless blessings.  Through our growing relationship with Jesus Christ, we become more and more aware of God’s grace, love, and mercy in our lives and in the lives of others.  A world without our church would be a world less bright and less warm.

We are at the time of year when we examine the finances of St. James’ in order to plan for the upcoming year.  It is important to note that almost 100% of our income is generated from your generosity.  Your giving, your pledge, your contribution to St. James’ is what allows our community to exist.  It is through your effort that the common good is supported, and with an anticipated operating expense of close to $300,000, every contribution is important!

In the coming weeks, you will be hearing more about the need to and the privilege of supporting your spiritual home.  Keep an open mind and an open heart as you examine your own part in our lives together.  Allow the Spirit to move through your imagination as you dream about the potential of our church.  Pay close attention to the feeling of gratitude in your heart as you reflect on the gifts you and your family have received from being a member of our community.  Let your offering be an act of faith that all that God gives far surpasses what we can contribute in return.  Let your offering be a manifestation of the Spirit in your life.
