In a little over five weeks John McCutcheon will be visiting us again for his thirteenth annual Martin Luther King Day concert at St. James’. Since he was here for last year’s concert, he has toured the country and also performed Si Kahn’s one man play “Joe Hill’s Last Will” at St. James’ as well as many other places. It will be interesting to find out what effect the play has had on John’s concert performances, his concert song selections, and his outlook on acting.
Last year at St. James’ he performed his song “Je Suis Charlie” after the shootings at Charlie Hebdo. Will he write a new song this year in support of the people of Paris? Certainly the terrorists’ names will be forgotten, but not the victims and survivors, innocents all. Will the terrorists get their way to force us to militarize our country? I think we will resist, but who knows? Did we not love one another enough?
The really good thing about John’s concerts is that we feel better coming out of the Club Saint J after John’s performance than when we arrived – because of his performance.
