From the opening \u201cRank Stranger\u201d by Ralph Stanley to the closing \u201cCome on People\u201d by the Youngbloods, every song felt like something new. John had fun playing on his new hammered dulcimer and showed us how it could sing. Accompanied by his new autoharp, John, Red Tail Ring, and the whole audience sang out on Bob Franke\u2019s \u201cThe Great Storm Is Over.\u201d How about when Laurel and John accompanied themselves on fiddle and Jew\u2019s Harp \u2013 amazing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a Show! John sang a new,\nunrecorded song, \u201cHello Mother,\u201d that touched a lot of hearts. Then there was\nLaurel and John\u2019s version of \u201cShady Grove\u201d played on both of their fiddles \u2013\njust amazing! Michael told us that he wrote his song \u201cLast Night Forever\u201d in\nNorway when he had nothing to do \u2013 a beautiful love song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46947\" width=\"276\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-2-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old favorites, &#8220;Room at the Top of the Stairs,&#8221; &#8220;Happy Adoption Day&#8221; (John has met so may wonderful people since he wrote that song), &#8220;Featherbed&#8221; (accompanied on hammered dulcimer) rang so true with the audience. \u201cChristmas in the Trenches\u201d told by the WWI soldier sure made us think about terribleness of war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-3-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46948\" width=\"272\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-3-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/saintj.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/2020McCutcheon-3-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This show had a richness brought on by the beautiful, three-part harmonies of John, and Red Tail Ring (Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp-Cohen) singing together. Laurel and Michael\u2019s harmonies blended so well \u2013 it\u2019s their thing \u2013 on their new \u201cFall Away Blues\u201d and other songs including \u201cWorking on a Building.\u201d The \u201ctrio\u201d received a standing ovation which prompted the final song \u201cCome on People\u201d &#8211; Smile on Your Brother.
