St. James’ participates in Sacred Space, a ministry of the Southern Alameda County Deanery, to unhoused persons in the East Bay. Sacred Space holds a weekly worship service in Hayward. Clergy lead a communion service, and then a bag lunch is provided to those who attend. St. James’ rotates with other parishes in the Southern Alameda County Deanery to provide lunches once a month.
The mission of Sacred Space is “to provide spiritual companionship to homeless men and women who seek a non-threatening way to be with others in relationship and in community.”
A sign-up sheet is posted in the Parish Hall for volunteers to sign up to help provide lunch. Please contact Janet Fischer, Sacred Space Coordinator, with any questions.
