In difficult times, people of faith come together in worship and prayer to lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross, inviting Christ to bear our pain. With the cultural #metoo movement coinciding with a controversial confirmation of a Supreme Court justice accused of sexual assault, many have felt vulnerable and exposed as old, and sometimes not-so-old, experiences have been remembered and relived. We, the staff of St. James’, feel compelled to create a sacred space for our community to come together for prayer and healing.
On Friday, November 30 at 7:00pm, we will hold a worship service, giving us space for lament, silence, scripture, song, and spoken word. While many of the elements of the service will be oriented towards women, we hope that all and any who have been impacted by sexual violence, either directly or through relationship, will feel welcome to participate.
