We will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis and have our animals blessed on Sunday, October 2. Bring your friends, furry and otherwise, to join in the fun at our 10:30am outdoor service!  All animals welcome, though please be considerate towards skittish ones by ensuring your dog is leashed and your cat is leashed or caged.  Stuffed animals and animal pictures are also encouraged.  Please consider donating animal food, clean blankets, treats and toys to the Tri-City Animal Shelter.  We will have a box out for collections on that Sunday.

Grief Support Group
Oct 4 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

St. James’ is offering a Grief Support group for any who wish to attend. Our parish has lost a number of members over the past 15 months, and in addition, many parishioners have losses of their own among friends and their families—many of whom have been denied the usual memorial rites and rituals due to the pandemic. Grief and loss are a part of life, but current conditions have aggravated the pain which loss includes. We therefore hope to provide a place and time where we can share one another’s losses and alleviate some of the pain. Bill Hale, former grief support person for Odyssey Hospice in Michigan, will facilitate the group. Please contact Rev. Bill for more information.

Book Study: Inspired
Oct 5 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Join us in person on Wednesday afternoons to read together the book, “Inspired” by Rachel Held Evans.  Rachel Held Evan’s book has the subtitle “Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again”, a nod towards the overall content of the book being one about scripture.  How do we read our sacred stories?  How do we reconcile the difficult stories with our understanding of God?  What does the Bible mean for us today?  Through memoir, poetry, short stories and vignettes, Held Evan’s walks with us while we learn about the living word of God’s story.  This book study will meet in the Education Room from 3:00-4:00 beginning September 14.  Please purchase your book in advance.  If you need financial assistance, please let Lori know.  If at all possible, consider supporting a local bookstore such as Banter Bookstore [link to book here].

The gatherings will be facilitated by Rev. Lori and Ann Saponara.
