Children inherently understand ritual and prayer and find meaning in being able to participate fully in worship. Understanding the traditional Ash Wednesday Liturgy is not geared towards the child’s world, children often miss this important service of making a confession and having their foreheads marked with ashes. To address the importance of offering ritual to our children, we hold a Service of Imposition of Ashes for Children. This is an age- appropriate service that allows the child to move from Epiphany to Lent with the rest of the congregation through worship.
Our Imposition of Ashes for Children will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at the tail end of our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. We will gather in the little church at 6:45 for a short 30 minute service. This allows the children to participate in Shrove Tuesday (begins at 5:30pm) and end the evening with receiving ashes. All children and teens are welcome to participate. Parents of young children are also invited.

Vital + Thriving is a three-year program meant to guide the parish through a process of discernment and discovery of what God is calling us to be.
This Saturday March 11 at 2pm we will be holding a “Timeline Event” where we’ll meet to share and capture the events that have made up the story of St. James’. What has happened at St. James’ that stands out for you? What are the significant events that shape who we are as a community? Whether you’ve been a part of St. James’ for one week, or since you were born – we look forward to capturing a complete picture of St. James’ on our timeline. We want every parishioner to participate as we collectively plot the important events in the life of St. James’.
Please join us on Saturday March 11th at 2:00pm in the Parish Hall – refreshments will be provided. If you can’t join us on Saturday, there will be an opportunity to add to our timeline on Sunday March 12th directly after the 8:00am and 10:30am services.
