St. James’ is offering a Grief Support group for any who wish to attend. Our parish has lost a number of members over the past 15 months, and in addition, many parishioners have losses of their own among friends and their families—many of whom have been denied the usual memorial rites and rituals due to the pandemic. Grief and loss are a part of life, but current conditions have aggravated the pain which loss includes. We therefore hope to provide a place and time where we can share one another’s losses and alleviate some of the pain. Bill Hale, former grief support person for Odyssey Hospice in Michigan, will facilitate the group. Please contact Rev. Bill for more information.
Join us for a four-week exploration of Advent using the readings from A Women’s Lectionary For The Whole Church which we will use on Sundays this season. Starting on Tuesday, November 29th at 7:00 PM and continuing weekly through December 20th, we will meet on Zoom to explore the themes and message of God’s promises and the people – especially women – who helped in their fulfillment to discern how our stories intersect with theirs as those promises continue to find fulfillment in our lives. Rev Bill will provide each week’s materials in advance that we may together “hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” these stories from a new perspective. For more information, please contact Rev Bill.
Gather together for our Wednesday morning Ante-Communion Service – a regular service minus Holy Communion. Each Wednesday at 10:00 AM we will explore the upcoming Sunday lessons, gather our prayers for those in our community, pass the peace, and worship as normally as we can during this time. You don’t need anything but a computer to connect into the Zoom meeting. If you are interested, email Rev. Bill at bhale@saintj.com or click the link below.

Join us in person on Wednesday afternoons to read together the book, “Inspired” by Rachel Held Evans. Rachel Held Evan’s book has the subtitle “Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again”, a nod towards the overall content of the book being one about scripture. How do we read our sacred stories? How do we reconcile the difficult stories with our understanding of God? What does the Bible mean for us today? Through memoir, poetry, short stories and vignettes, Held Evan’s walks with us while we learn about the living word of God’s story. This book study will meet in the Education Room from 3:00-4:00 beginning September 14. Please purchase your book in advance. If you need financial assistance, please let Lori know. If at all possible, consider supporting a local bookstore such as Banter Bookstore [link to book here].
The gatherings will be facilitated by Rev. Lori and Ann Saponara.

Everyone is welcome to join this evening where we celebrate the waiting and anticipation of Advent. The evening includes a short service, an early playing of Christmas music and an opportunity for each household to make the angels, shepherds and sheep for their own nativity scene. We will also share dinner together.
You can sign up on the sheet in the parish hall, or online here.

The data gathered at these meetings will form the core of the diocesan profile—the descriptive document we will publish to seek applicants to serve as the Ninth Bishop of California.
