Sacred Space

SacredSpaceHayward-smSt. James’ participates in Sacred Space, an Episcopal ministry to unhoused persons in the East Bay.  Sacred Space holds a weekly worship service in Hayward.  Clergy lead a communion service, and then a bag lunch is provided to those who attend.  St. James’ rotates with other churches in the Southern Alameda Deanery to provide lunches once a month.

The mission of Sacred Space is “to provide spiritual companionship to homeless men and women who seek a non-threatening way to be with others in relationship and in community.”  The Sacred Space website details the ministry, current locations in the East Bay, and other information.

A sign-up sheet is posted in the Parish Hall for volunteers to sign up to help provide lunch. Please contact Janet Fischer, Sacred Space Coordinator, with any questions.
